Learn Shamanism
Dear Friend:
Welcome to Learn Shamanism.
Shamanism is both an old and ancient science and modern healing methodology.
There are many ways to learn Shamanism and get shamanic training and or healing and the best is definitely to be with an authentic teacher of Shamanism in person. Having said that, it is often not possible when just beginning as one doesn’t know where to go or where to start. A good place to start is with a few solid resources that are recommended for both beginners and those with experience.
Our favorite learning tool is a film featuring Shaman and teacher of Shamanism Sandra Ingerman, titled Listen With Your Heart: Sandra Ingerman on Shamanism, Healing & Nature. If you have the eyes to see you will see magic in every frame though the film is done in an interview style. It offers something a book cannot – an up close and personal view of one of the leaders in the field of shamanic healing and training. You can order it by Clicking Here
This is our top recommendation.
We think it is important to read Ingerman’s Soul Retrieval: Mending the Fragmented Self since it was that particular book that brought about the modern knowledge of that practice and methodology. We have seen many others try to steal the spotlight on Soul Retrieval but it is Ingerman’s work which we feel remains the best and classic in the field. No study of Shamanism would be complete without entering into the type of work that is offered in this book. This book is not just about shamanism but a book that will help any one with an interest in shamanic healing take steps into a personal understanding of themselves and guide them to move forward in life.
For those wishing to learn how to partake of shamanic journeying again from Sandra Ingerman we recommend Shamanic Journeying: A Beginner’s Guide. Ingerman is a trusted resource and loved teacher of literally thousands so you can feel confident with any of her works. We like the above best for those particular topics.
If you are interested in taking a path that involves getting more in touch with the animal realm and Totem animals then a good book would be Ted Andrews well regarded book Animal-Speak: The Spiritual & Magical Powers of Creatures Great & Small
Another good introduction to start you on the path toward learning shamanism is Tom Cowan’s book Shamanism As a Spiritual Practice for Daily Life. As the title says, it is one that will help you understand that you can benefit and be guided by a spiritual practice that is part of your every day life. It is really about waking up in daily life to a world that is always there helping and guiding you if you so chose to be helped and guided.
If you want to learn more on one of the central aspects of Shamanism then you may also consider Animal Spirit Guides: An Easy-to-Use Handbook for Identifying and Understanding Your Power Animals and Animal Spirit Helpers
We also like Michael Harner’s work and we don’t feel any list would be complete with out one of the books that really helped the understanding of what makes up a Shaman’s world and helps us understand the Shaman’s world view. I think almost every serious person who was wanted to learn shamanism at some point has read some of this book so we also recommend reading The Way of the Shaman so you will be familiar with this standard reference work.
We hope you will go with one of the above suggestions if you don’t already know what you want. For the visual or intuitive amongst us, again, the film at the top of the page is a great way to both introduce either your self or a loved one to the practice.
Good luck on you Journey and Many Blessings.
